Asking the Right Questions - 9/21/21

Asking the Right Questions

Hey family, this morning at our husband's prayer group the topic of sin, conviction, and how to appropriately address it came up. The general concensous was to speak the truth in love. But the question of the day is, "How do we speak the truth in love?"

Today's Prayer
"Dear Heavenly Father, today we come before You in all humility and fear seeking to know more of You and Your Holy word. We want to know what speaking the truth in love looks like and how we can apply it to our daily lives when interacting with those in the body of Christ and in the world. As we look to Your word, we see that Christ often used questions to convict and change the hearts of people. So, Lord help us to also ask the right questions to those who are in need rather than seeking to puff up our own chest by spouting off what we view as the right answers, we ask that by Your Holy Spirit You would give us the right questions. We pray this prayer seeking Your grace, humility, and power in Christ name we pray, Amen."

Scripture
Questions from Jesus that Make Us Dig Deeper:

Anxious For Your Life
Matthew 6:25‭-‬29
“Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these."

The Bridegroom Has Left So We Now Mourn
Matthew 9:14‭-‬15
Then the disciples of John came to him, saying, “Why do we and the Pharisees fast, but your disciples do not fast?” And Jesus said to them, “Can the wedding guests mourn as long as the bridegroom is with them? The days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then they will fast.

Breaking Tradition for Christ
Matthew 15:1‭-‬6
Then Pharisees and scribes came to Jesus from Jerusalem and said, “Why do your disciples break the tradition of the elders? For they do not wash their hands when they eat.” He answered them, “And why do you break the commandment of God for the sake of your tradition? For God commanded, ‘Honor your father and your mother,’ and, ‘Whoever reviles father or mother must surely die.’ But you say, ‘If anyone tells his father or his mother, “What you would have gained from me is given to God,” he need not honor his father.’ So for the sake of your tradition you have made void the word of God.

Deny Yourself to Walk with Jesus
Matthew 16:24‭-‬28
Then Jesus told his disciples, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what shall a man give in return for his soul? For the Son of Man is going to come with his angels in the glory of his Father, and then he will repay each person according to what he has done. Truly, I say to you, there are some standing here who will not taste death until they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom.”

Quote of the Day
"We must speak the truth in love not by our own convictions and opinions, but rather by the correct questions. And the correct questions do not come from our own worldview, but rather through the Holy Spirit."
- Alvy Butler, Jr.

Have a blessed day! 🙂
