Image-bearers of Christ - 7/7/22
Hey Family, today I want to talk about being image-bearers of Christ, but equally important, seeing Christ's image in others and treating them accordingly. In my line of work, there are many people that I come in contact with that have been overlooked, passed around, fallen through the cracks, looked at in disgrace, and altogether forgotten. Those people are, in fact, all image-bearers of Christ. As a society, especially as Christians, we ought to seek to see that beautiful image of Christ in all who we interact with and make sure that they know that we truly 'see' them and see Christ in them by the time, dignity, and respect that is given to them. Question of the Day:
When is the last time you sought to see the image of God in someone else, simultaneously making a valiant effort to show them through your actions?
Today's Prayer
"Dear Heavenly Father, Your image is in each of us and some of us are better than others at showing it, but regardless it's in each of us. Lord, as we go about our lives and see people every day, sometimes the people we see and interact with can be a blur. In response to that, I ask that You might help us slow down and smell the roses of each interaction we have to make sure that we are being intentional to seek Chrisr's image in all people. Please help us to showcase 'other-worldly' levels of love, patience, respect, and kindness to those that it may be most difficult to give those things. This can only be achieved by the power of Your Holy Spirit. So, come, Lord, show us Your power and make us sturdy vessels, worthy and fully equipped to carry out Your perfect will. In Jesus Christ's beautiful name we pray, Amen."
Scripture
Bearing Christ's Image by His Spirit
2 Corinthians 3:4-18
"Such is the confidence that we have through Christ toward God. Not that we are sufficient in ourselves to claim anything as coming from us, but our sufficiency is from God, who has made us sufficient to be ministers of a new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit. For the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life. Now if the ministry of death, carved in letters on stone, came with such glory that the Israelites could not gaze at Moses’ face because of its glory, which was being brought to an end, will not the ministry of the Spirit have even more glory? For if there was glory in the ministry of condemnation, the ministry of righteousness must far exceed it in glory. Indeed, in this case, what once had glory has come to have no glory at all, because of the glory that surpasses it. For if what was being brought to an end came with glory, much more will what is permanent have glory. Since we have such a hope, we are very bold, not like Moses, who would put a veil over his face so that the Israelites might not gaze at the outcome of what was being brought to an end. But their minds were hardened. For to this day, when they read the old covenant, that same veil remains unlifted, because only through Christ is it taken away. Yes, to this day whenever Moses is read a veil lies over their hearts. But when one turns to the Lord, the veil is removed. Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And we all, with unveiled faces, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit."
Quote of the Day
"Regardless of how big the victory, we win nothing by trampling the humanity of another."
- Craig D. Loinsrough
