Your Purpose vs. Your Calling - 12/19/20
Your Purpose vs. Your Calling
Your calling and your purpose are very different. Your calling has its footing in the Earthly realm and your purpose has its grip secured to the Heavenly realm. Before we delve deeper into this subject, let's bring this matter to the Father.
TODAY'S PRAYER:
"Dear Heavenly Father, you have clearly drawn Your lines in the sands of this life and the next, and recognizing the importance of both You have intentionally created a certain depth in both. Although fleeting, You created opportunities for us to fulfill and feel fulfilled in this world that You created for us. However, You make it quite clear that within our Earthly fulfillment, there are Heavenly requirements that must be met. Thank you for Your deep and tangible sense of intentionality and generosity. We love you and give You all the praise, in Jesus Christ name we pray, AMEN!"
Our purpose in this life is to love the Lord with all out heart, soul, mind, and strength. To bring glory honor and praise to our Heavenly Father, the Creator of All and His eternal Kingdom. This purpose is etched in stone, never to be changed and is our greatest commandment.
Our calling, on the other hand, is quite fluid. It is simply the Earthly platform to which the Creator and our Savior places in front of us to adequately fulfill our purpose, as previously stated. You may be called to be a doctor, but in that lab or operating room the Lord is expecting you to still fulfill your purpose. You may be called to be a teacher, but when you're teaching those children, grading those assignments/tests, and communicating with parents, know that you have a purpose that is higher than your Earthly duties and vocation.
On the bright side, which showcases just how thoughtful our Heavenly Father is, if we submit our lives and our calling to Him, He will actively present opportunities for both to coexist. Jesus came down and lived a fully-human life, and recognized in His time as a human we need both a calling and a purpose, and He created a balance that would fit both the needs of His creation and the desires of His heart.
SCRIPTURE:
Mark 12:28-33 NIV
"One of the teachers of the law came and heard them debating. Noticing that Jesus had given them a good answer, he asked him, “Of all the commandments, which is the most important?” “The most important one,” answered Jesus, “is this: ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.” “Well said, teacher,” the man replied. “You are right in saying that God is one and there is no other but him. To love him with all your heart, with all your understanding and with all your strength, and to love your neighbor as yourself is more important than all burnt offerings and sacrifices.”
Call to Action:
Think of ways that you can and will improse your purpose into your calling in the coming 2021 year. Write it down, put it somewhere visible, and if you feel comfortable share it with a few close friends and family.
Have a blessed day! 🙂
