Doing Relationships the Right Way - 4/29/21

Hey Family, today as I sat at my kitchen table, I found myself thinking about all of the janky fixes that have been done to my house by previous owners, and it made me think, how often do we perform a janky fix within our relationships (passive aggressiveness, lies, holding grudges, manipulation, etc.) with our spouses, friends, family, co-workers and yes, even our relationship with God. These individuals, especially God, all deserve our best efforts daily and that can look a number of different ways that include, but are not limited to reconciliation, honesty, unconditional love, forgiveness, grace, healthy accomodations, and an abundance of prayer. God knows our hearts and our relationships, so we're not fooling the One that counts with our janky fixes.

Today's Prayer
"Dear Heavenly Father, You know that as humans sometimes doing relationships the right way can feel like more than we can bare, which is why You showcased on the Cross and throughout Your life to the world, just how far our relationships should go for one another. Help us in our walk, Lord, by giving us the strength, the heart, and the courage to love people like You do. In Jesus Christ beautiful name we pray, Amen."

Scripture
What We Ought to Do
1 Peter 3:8‭-‬12 NIV
"Finally , all of you, be like-minded, be sympathetic, love one another, be compassionate and humble. Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult. On the contrary, repay evil with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing. For, “Whoever would love life and see good days must keep their tongue from evil and their lips from deceitful speech. They must turn from evil and do good; they must seek peace and pursue it. For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their prayer, but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.”

Proper Prayer and Proper Treatment
Matthew 6:9‭-‬15 NIV
“This, then, is how you should pray: “ ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. ’ For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins."

Quote of the Day
"It’s  easier to treat people properly than to repair broken relationships."
- Frank Sonnenberg
